The Chairman,
Ward Six,
People Democratic Party,
Etsako East LGA
Edo state.
Sir,
LETTER OF RESIGNATION
The above subject matter refer with the following reasons:
1) Gross marginalization of ward 6 by a set of people/leaders from Okpella from appointment and patronage of members of the party in the ward. Known Examples are;
a) SSA appointment which are normally shared between Zone A ( ward 5 and ward 6 that is Ogute) and Zone B ( ward 7 and 8 that is Oteku) are concentrated onnone section because these leaders felt the are close to the government of the day. All complaints are ignored. May be that is the new definition of equity and fairness.
b) Revenue collection contract: Ogute that is Ward 5 and 6 were excluded. The four Contractors all belonging to Oteku that is Ward 7 and 8 for two cycles now. Another new meaning of justics, equity and fairness.
2) Nothing visible has been done for the ward even when at a time, ward 6 was the only one won by the party in the entire Etsako East LGA for Governorship election of 2020. The records are there in case of doubting Thomases. Those who claim everything all lost their wards.
3) Neglect from infrastructural project by the state Government Revealed that the State Governor promised to construct the notorious Imiekuri Road within 24 months when re-elected. He was taken to Imiekuri for his campaign train by the ward leaders even when the community was not the ward headquarter to enable him see for himself what that part of ward 6 people are passing through, until now, few months to the end of the current second term of his Administration, nothing has been done absolutely. At a point, a young man from ward 8, Emmanuel Aronokhale wrote a letter of reminder to the state Governor of which he was invited five times after the State Governor reply confirming the promise, nothing has been done on the road and the peope continue to live in aguish and cut off from the rest of the brother , Okpella and improished from lack of access to market their agricultural produce.
4) House of Assembly Ticket a member of the ward was aspiring for, was given to a ward that lost election consecutively in Weppa Wanno axis of the Local Government. Is that not a reward for laziness? Only the Dictatorial party leaders and the Deputy Governor of Edo State can answer that. It is known that Edo north is given to him to use his discretion. This repeated itself severally and we are left with notjing.
5) Commissioner slot for Etsako LGA has continued to be denied ward 6 and entire 4 wards in Okpella severally. Our leaders’ voices have continued to be silenced and surprised by those in the corridor of power
6) The Shouding Township roads constructed after over a decade when the contract was first awarded and revoked and it is on record that erosion has rendered many homes unhanitable and has carry away human beings, we continue to vote the PDP only for the re-award of the road contract and its execution to be left unsupervisioned by either the executive nor the ministry. Hence, the road failed in a matter of weeks on several portion. Our complaint were all ignored.
7) Okpella electricity supply nose dived and is seriously affecting small businesses. At a point, the community purchased and installed 9 transformers over 4 years ago. As I write, all effort to energize the 9 transformers receive no help from either the state government nor the local government. Little wonder that Ufuokpara and another of the transformer remained in-energized until today. This has effectively made the inhabitant of the section of Okpella to live in darkness.
8) Boundary Challenges between Okpella in Edo State and Okene in Kogi State is left to be faced by Okpella alone is another terrible issue. Despite Okpella be home to the 2 of the largest cement companies in Africa (Dangote and BUA) and the community prospensity to attract more companies to invest in its large array of world class solid minerals in the community, the boundary dispute has been left in the hands of Okpella people all alone like an orphan or as if we nit part of a State and a LGA. Ward 6 In Okpella Etsako East has a fair share in the problem bedeviling Okpella. At a point, a community in ward 6 has to take the State Government to court when the state action ignored the state govt white paper and Federal legal declarations that took care unambiguously , the communities and the council’s boundaries as if there is no ministry of Justice and a commissioner heading it to advise the state authority.
9) Vacant Throne of Okuokpellagbe of Okpella. The community has sent a list of three names to the state government to be considered for the vacant throne, the State Government has not dignified the community with a response. All letters sent has not been responded to though receipt of such letters from old and young has be acknowledged. This has left the community without a shepherd. Invitation and engagement with the community leaders could have solve this within a week. How long can we wait for the state reaction to this?
10) Environmental degradation occasioned by mining companies is another area which the community is not feeling the presence of government in Okpella. The investment in mining of solid mineral especially limestone for cement has created jobs for the youth of the community, state and the country at large. The community has never seen officials of the ministry of Environment monitoring processes put in place by the state government to mitigate the impact of solid mineral mining in the community. If the govt can remember to send Revenue oOfficials here daily to collective Revenue from both the State and The Local Government Council they should as well monitor the use of the environment.
11) encroachment on Government land for school and others is another area I felt Okpella is not part of a State and LGA. We have heard and seen on Television the energy expended by the state to pull down an hotel purportedly built on a primary school land in Benin city, that cannot be said or replicated in Okpella. Even if that is for political exigencies, same political move should have be taken in Okpella and ward 6.
12) This is the Judas of them all. In the course of searching for a king, some either coronated one of the nominee. The speed with which the state govt invited, detained and is prosecuting them has never be used to address other Okpella challenges. This make Okpellans to believe that the State Government under our party know what its doing. All letter of apology to the state Executive Council for forgiveness and to give us a king are still waiting for a response.
Based on the foregoing, I have come to the conclusion that my membership of the People Democratic party, the ruling party in the state should be withdraw the party has failed to continue to deserve my membership henceforth.
Resigning from the party mean “stop complaining”. My right to complain for my ward ill treatment and entire Okpella at large as a member of the ruling paty has ceased. I will henceforth not be counted among the ruling party and Government of Edo state due to the insensitive manner my ward 6 and Okpella as a whole are treated. Do I have any actual thing to loose that I have not lost already? I think your guess is as good as mine.
Comrade Marcus Jide.
