Chairman Etsako East Local Government Area Hon. (Princess) Benedicta Attoh has appealed to parents to make their children available for immunization against polio infection which has caused disability to many children.
The Chairman who was speaking today in an enlarged stakeholders meeting at the Primary Health health care centre
Agenebode said the official flagoff of the polio immunization will be done tomorrow and the health workers would be deployed to various communities for children between the ages of 0–59 months ie. Zero to 5 years.
She called on community leaders to immediately deploy their local town criers to sensitize the people that polio vaccination is free and not to be paid for. Ignorance she said has made many withhold their children from being vaccinated.
Hon. (Princess) Benedicta Attoh described Polio as a life-threatening disease and virus that can affect the brain and spinal cord, it is dangerous for Children not to be vaccinated or up to date with their polio immunizations she said.
Earlier in his remark
the Coordinator of Primary Healthcare in Etsako East Local Government Area Dr. Damisa lamented about the high level of resistance by parents who decline to cooperate with health officers during immunization exercise. He said the immunization will commence on Friday and end by Tuesday while Wednesday and Thursday are for mop-up exercise.
“Any community that health officials have not visited between tomorrow and Monday should raise an alarm or report to the council,” he said.
