Unwanno Kingdom, has celebrated their Ukpe festival 2023 in grand style
Ukpe festival which simply means New Yam Festival, is an annual festival that celebrated by the good people of Uwanno Kingdom home and abroad and the significance of the festival isto officially declare the new yam free for eating as tradition holds it in Uwanno Kingdom, Agenebode Edo state.
The first person to eat from the boiled yam is the king, done by HRM George Egbabor Oshapi, Omoaze 1 The Okumagbe of Uwanno Kingdom, followed by the second in command Iyatse, Otono 1,then from the Senior High Chiefs to all other chiefs and Ukpi drummers.
Ukpe festival often attended by Sons and Daughters of Uwanno Kingdom home and abroad and also footer untogether to celebrate the annual festival.
The festival has no fixed date,the date of every year celebration of UKPE FESTIVAL is always announce from the Royal palace, while the secretary to HRM, HC PETER OMOGBIEMI thereafter makes the written publication.
Today the 2nd of August is set-aside for this year’s celebration.
